The Junior Reserve Officers' Corp (JROTC) program teaches high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline. The Army JROTC formally came into being
with the passage of the National Defense Act of 1916. The Ysleta High School JROTC program was established in 1957 and was the first JROTC program instituted within the Ysleta Independent School District.
At the onset of the 2018-2019 school year, out top administrator, "Chief of the Reservation," and principal - Mrs. Rendon presented a profound mandate to the faculty and staff: "Ysleta High School was the first high school established in the Ysleta Independent School District, and we were once first in all that we did - first in attendance, first in grades, and first in sports...it is time that we reclaim our first, this year's motto is 'Bow up.'
With this in mind, the 2018-2019 Ysleta High School JROTC Instructors directed as one of its objectives: "exposure and visibility." To expose our Cadets to more activities and opportunities that JROTC has to offer and to reveal to the community, an active JROTC program willing to participate in as many of the interests and endeavors of the entire community. In light of Mrs. Rendon's mandate, we, under the leadership of our Battalion Commander - Cadet LTC Alex Rivera, have adopted as our motto for the 2018-2019 school year: "Bow up." To highlight the Army's current motto (Army Strong) and to show our support in the endeavor to restore the 'Bow up' pride of the 1st Indian Battalion JROTC.
